The Trustees are responsible for the governance, strategy and oversight of the Foundation and its two standard-setting boards—the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).

Joong-Kyung Choi has served as Minister of Trade, Industry & Energy and First Vice Minister of Finance and Economy in South Korea. He was also Chief Economic Policy Advisor to former South Korean President MB Lee. From 2016 to 2020 he served as President of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he played a central role in introducing the 2017 Accounting Reform Act, which brought major reforms to enhance auditor independence. He has also previously served as Ambassador to the Philippines and as Executive Director at the World Bank Group. He is an Emeritus Professor at Korea University and holds a PhD in economics from the University of Hawaii Manoa.

Yaprak Baltacioglu has broad experience in national policy development and organisational leadership, as well as extensive non-executive director expertise. She currently serves as an Independent Director at Deloitte Canada and Chile and as a Director at MDA Space and at Canadian product certification body CSA Group. Throughout her career, Ms Baltacioglu has held senior government roles in Ottawa, Canada, including as Secretary of the Treasury Board and Deputy Minister of several ministries. She also has experience from academia and holds a Master’s degree from Carleton University. She is a Member of the Order of Canada.

Mr Choi and Ms Baltacioglu will succeed Sukjoon Lee and Maria Theofilaktidis respectively. Both appointments are for a three-year term, effective 1 January 2026.

The appointments have been approved by the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board, which consists of capital market authorities and reinforces the public oversight of the Foundation and the Trustees.
