The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has published the Exposure Draft IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Practice Statement 1 Nature-related Disclosures in October 2026.
The proposals have been developed to help companies provide material information to investors about nature-related risks and opportunities.
Companies applying the ISSB’s foundational Standard, IFRS S1 General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information, are already required to disclose material information about their sustainability-related risks and opportunities that could affect their prospects, which include those related to nature. The focus of the ISSB’s nature-related disclosures project is to provide more detail on how companies can provide this information, improving the quality and comparability of nature-related financial information globally.
The ISSB has drawn extensively from the work of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) in developing its proposals.
The ISSB’s proposals come in the form of a Practice Statement—a stand-alone, prominent part of IFRS Foundation materials, subject to the IFRS Foundation’s full due process. From a content and drafting perspective, there is no difference between a Practice Statement and a Standard. The key difference is that a company is not required to comply with a Practice Statement to state compliance with ISSB Standards, so this approach supports high-quality nature-related disclosures but prevents disruption in companies and jurisdictions’ efforts to implement the ISSB Standards.
In addition to seeking feedback on the content of the proposals, the ISSB is asking for feedback on whether to finalise the Practice Statement or issue nature-related content in another form (for example, as a Standard).
The Exposure Draft will be open for comment for 120 days, with the comment period closing on 19 February 2027.
Stakeholders can respond to the request for comment on the Exposure Draft by submitting:
Submitting both a survey and comment letter is not necessary.
The Exposure Draft includes the proposals and the Invitation to Comment, posing specific questions for feedback. The Accompanying Guidance provides illustrative examples on disclosure of information related to location of assets and activities. The Basis for Conclusions explains the background and rationale for the proposals. Supplemental reference materials have also been made available.
The questions in the survey are identical to the questions in the Exposure Draft, and respondents are not required to answer all questions. The survey will improve the ISSB’s capacity to review and comment on feedback.
Before submitting the survey, stakeholders can view a pdf of the survey. The purpose of this document is only to provide stakeholders with an overview of the survey, so please do not submit this document in response to the Exposure Draft.
Stakeholders may, instead of responding to the survey, respond to the request for comment on the Exposure Draft by submitting a comment letter below.

Note: Please ensure you upload your comment letter as an editable pdf (at least one file must be uploaded). We do not accept Word documents, which will fail to upload. Please also ensure there are no periods or other reserved characters in the file name because these will cause an error.
All comment letters will be on the public record and posted on our website unless the respondent requests confidentiality. Such requests will not normally be granted without a good reason—for example, commercial confidence. If you would like to request confidentiality, please contact us before submitting your letter.
