On 20 May 2013 the International Accounting Standards Board published for public comment a draft interpretation. The draft Interpretation addresses the accounting for levies that are recognised in accordance with the definition of a liability provided in IAS 37 Provisions, Contingent Liabilities and Contingent Assets.

The Interpretations Committee was asked to consider how an entity should account for liabilities to pay levies imposed by governments, other than income taxes, in its financial statements. The principal question raised was about when the entity should recognise a liability to pay a levy.

The draft Interpretation was open for comment until 5 September 2012.
