The International Accounting Standards Board’s (IASB) Global Preparers Forum (GPF) has appointed Carolina Rubio Oset as a new member for an initial five-year term. Ms Oset brings her extensive expertise in financial reporting to the GPF.
Ms Oset is the Senior Director of Accounting at EDP, where she leads the group accounting function. Her responsibilities include financial reporting, technical accounting and the consistent application of IFRS Accounting Standards across EDP’s international operations.
Ms Oset has extensive experience addressing complex accounting matters in a multinational and capital-intensive environment, including business combinations, financial instruments, regulatory accounting and the implementation of new and amended IFRS Accounting Standards. In her role, she works closely with top management, external auditors, audit committees and regulators to support high-quality, transparent and comparable financial information.
Prior to joining EDP 19 years ago, Ms Oset worked for five years as an external auditor. She holds a degree in Business Administration and Management and a postgraduate qualification as an expert in International Taxation. Ms Oset brings a strong preparer perspective to financial reporting discussions, with a particular focus on operational practicability, consistency of application and faithful representation.
The process to fill remaining GPF positions remain underway, as set out in the October call for members which highlighted interest in candidates from the Asia-Oceania region or the United States of America, or those with experience in the banking or financial services industry.
The GPF is a body independent from the IASB and the IFRS Foundation, with the specific aim to provide the IASB with regular input from the international community of preparers of financial statements.
GPF members have considerable practical experience of financial reporting. Members are established commentators on accounting matters either from their own experience or by working with representative bodies. Members are drawn from a variety of industry and geographical backgrounds and are selected by the GPF on the merits of their professional competence and practical preparer experience to contribute to the development of high-quality global accounting standards.
