The IFRS Foundation is seeking an Editor to join our editorial team. The purpose of the role is to deliver effective editing services and writing advice to the International Accounting Standards Board and IFRS Foundation across the complete range of publications and communications.

It is important that publications of the Board and the Foundation are of the highest quality, because IFRS Standards issued by the Board are adopted into law internationally and are translated into many languages. Editors help ensure that the Board’s publications meet this high standard. They also assist the Foundation’s senior management in polishing international agreements and Foundation governance documents—and help the communications team maintain the quality and consistency of speeches, web pages, press releases and webinar scripts.

Editing and coaching people on their writing, therefore, directly support the clarity, consistency, translation and application of IFRS Standards.

Who we are looking for

The role of Editor is crucial to ensuring that publications are of the highest quality, by

  • editing documents for both general and technical audiences, demonstrating judgement in assessing the depth of editing required for each;
  • managing the flow of documents and meeting deadlines without sacrificing thoroughness;
  • creating and maintaining the internal Style Guide;
  • helping to improve the international staff members’ drafting ability through coaching, training and 1:1/group support as appropriate; and
  • working alongside colleagues to fulfil other duties, including project and document tracking.

What you will bring

To be successful in the role of Editor you will be a positive, assertive and diplomatic individual with the ability to work flexibly and independently, as well as working as a part of a team which aims for consistency. You will be willing to assume responsibility for a range of tasks and take pride in supporting others to improve the standard of their writing.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • excellent command of written English;
  • ability to simplify quasi-legislative material;
  • structured and analytical approach with the ability to communicate succinctly, tactfully and assertively (the ultimate decision on the content of documents remains with the originator);
  • excellent organisational skills, including an ability to work accurately to tight deadlines, with a high level of attention to detail;
  • significant experience in a similar role, ideally working with technical publications of a legislative nature (experience editing accounting standards is not a requirement for this role); and
  • certified editorial or proofreading training, diploma or degree.
