Vice-Chair of the International Accounting Standards Board Sue Lloyd joins the IFRS Foundation’s Education Director Matt Tilling for the June podcast about the Board’s recent discussions and activities.

Recorded in Frankfurt, during the IFRS Foundation’s annual international conference, Sue provides an overview of the conference and summarises some of the key points from Chair Hans Hoogervorst’s keynote speech to the conference entitled ‘IFRS Standards as enlightened self-interest’.

She also talks about the Board’s consultation on Financial Instruments with the Characteristics of Equity that was published in June 2018. The paper sets out the Board’s preferred approach to classification of a financial instrument, from the perspective of the issuer, as a financial liability or an equity instrument.

Sue gives a summary of a joint FASB and IASB meeting that took place in London in connection with the June Board meeting and served as an education session and opportunity for the Boards to share experience and exchange views. Topics discussed included:disclosures, goodwill and impairment, implementation support, primary financial statements and segments.

Other topics from the IASB June meeting covered in the podcast include the IFRS Taxonomy, the Board’s discussions on the definition of material, current value approaches for business combinations under common control and the Dynamic Risk Management project.
