The IFRS Foundation and the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) are holding a joint IFRS conference at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Canada on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 November 2017.

Members of the International Accounting Standards Board (Board) will join leaders in financial reporting from the private sector and regulatory bodies, as well as accounting professionals and others with an interest in IFRS Standards.

The conference offers a unique opportunity for you to hear the Board’s update on its active projects and future plans for financial reporting.

Presenters include Board members Hans Hoogervorst (Chair), Gary Kabureck, Tom Scott, Mary Tokar, and other IFRS Standards experts.

Technical breakout sessions by the Board members and experts on IFRS Standards will provide a forum for discussing IFRS 16 Leases and IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts, as well as some of the Board's projects including Financial Instruments with Characteristics of Equity, the Conceptual Framework, Primary Financial Statements and Rate-regulated Activities. The sessions will also survey the Board's implementation activities. A separate expert panel discussion on IFRS Standards, US GAAP and the future of corporate reporting will also take place.

In addition, pre-conference special-interest sessions (09:00–11:30 on Wednesday 1 November 2017) will cover:

  • an investor-focused IFRS Standards update;
  • an introduction to IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts; and
  • a discussion of the Board's Better Communication in Financial Reporting theme.
