The Capital Markets Advisory Committee has appointed Florian Esterer, Koei Otaki, Anthony Scilipoti, Sunil Singhania and Joao Toniato to the committee.

Florian Esterer is Head of Core Equities at Bank J. Safra Sarasin and leads a team covering all equity investments of Switzerland’s fourth largest private bank. He is a CFA charter holder and was Board member and President of the CFA Society Switzerland for 10 years.

Koei Otaki is a Senior Equity Analyst in the Equity Research department of SMBC Nikko Securities Inc, one of the largest investment banks in Japan.  He is a member of four technical committees of the Accounting Standards Board of Japan, including that for IFRS implementation and business combination, and is also involved in the Securities Analysts Association of Japan and the Corporate Reporting Users’ Forum of Japan.

Anthony Scilipoti is a founding partner and President and CEO of Veritas Investment Research Corporation, Canada’s largest independent equity research organisation, and a member of the continuous disclosure committee of the Ontario Securities Commission. He was previously a member of the Canadian Accounting Standards Board (ACsB) and its Emerging Issues Committee; he was also a chair of the AcSB’s Users Advisory Committee.

Sunil Singhania is the founder of Abakkus Asset Manager, an asset manager investing in India. Previously, he was Chief Investment Officer for equities at Reliance Mutual Fund. He was previously a member of the CFA Institute Board of Governors and Chair of its investment committee.

Joao Toniato is the European Equity Portfolio Strategist at UBS Investment Bank in London. He was previously Vice President of Global & European Equity Strategy at Barclays Investment Bank. Before joining the banking industry, he completed a PhD in finance and accounting at Lancaster University Management School and held positions at research institutes and universities across Europe. He has published academic papers in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as the effect of changes in accounting regulation on equity market valuation.

All appointments take effect from 1 January 2020 and are for a three-year period, with the option to renew for a second three-year period.

The CMAC is an independent advisory body established to provide regular input from an international community of users of financial statements to the International Accounting Standards Board.
