Koei Otaki is a senior analyst focusing on accounting and regulations at the equity research division of SMBC Nikko Securities Inc. He has worked there since April 2011. He advises institutional investors on accounting issues and regulations, including those relating to IFRS and corporate governance. In addition, he manages quality control of analyst reports and helps train and develop junior equity analysts.
He is also a member of several committees of the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA) and the Accounting Standards Board of Japan (ASBJ), as a representative of users. Furthermore, he is a member of the corporate accounting committee of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan (SAAJ) and the Corporate Reporting Users’ Forum Japan (CRUF-J).
Before joining SMBC Nikko, he worked as an auditor at Ernst & Young ShinNihon LLC for 13 years. He audited listed companies as a manager and advised preparers of financial statements on support of IPOs and transition to IFRS Standards. Prior to that, he was an equity analyst at Nomura Research Institute.
He graduated from Waseda University as a Bachelor of Commerce. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Japan (CPA) and a Certified Member Analyst of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan (CMA).
