About the role

Reports to: Director of Finance (London based)

Job Purpose: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of the Foundation’s entities in Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and strategic financial management. Key responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare comprehensive monthly and quarterly management accounts, and annual financial statements for the Canada and US entities, incorporating data related to Salesforce-driven transactions, B2B invoicing, website sales, licensing, memberships, and events. Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data, adhering to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) where applicable.
    • Provide timely and insightful financial analysis to support management decisions.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Affairs
    • Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, financial laws, and reporting requirements in both Canada and the US.
    • Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
    • Prepare and submit relevant regulatory filings accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Collaborate with department heads to develop and monitor budgets for the Canada and US entities.
    • Assist in the development of financial forecasts, highlighting potential risks and opportunities.
  • Financial Controls and Processes:
    • Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
    • Review and enhance financial processes and procedures to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Cash Flow Management
    • Monitor cash flow and liquidity for the Canada and US entities.
    • Manage cash disbursements, receivables, and payment processes to ensure optimal working capital management.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead and mentor the Americas finance team fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
    • Provide guidance and training to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Strategic Financial Planning:
    • Contribute to the development and execution of financial strategies that align with company goals, leveraging insights from Salesforce, website sales, and event.

Qualifications and experience:

Essential

  • CPA designation.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role, with at least 5 years of experience managing financial operations for a large or medium sized organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS.
  • Excellent understanding of tax regulations and compliance requirements in both Canada and the US.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office; proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel (intermediate Excel functions, i.e., pivot tables, vlookups, sorting, linking, etc.).
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central, Continia and Salesforce is advantageous.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of developing and mentoring finance teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Experience of salesforce, B2B invoicing management, website sales, licensing, memberships, events.
  • Experience working in an international environment.
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organisation.
  • Experience with Form 990 reporting and US filings.
