December 2021: JICPA IFRS Seminar

International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) Chair Andreas Barckow delivered a keynote speech at the annual IFRS Seminar hosted by the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (JICPA) and the Japan Foundation of Accounting Education and Learning; the seminar was broadcast on the web in both English and Japanese. Sue Lloyd (Vice-Chair of IASB until 1 March 2022 and now Vice-Chair of the ISSB) spoke about connectivity between the IASB and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB); IFRS Foundation Trustee Masamichi Kono discussed the ISSB launch; and IASB Member Rika Suzuki gave an update on IASB projects.


November 2021: AFA Conference

IFRS Foundation Trustee Masamichi Kono participated in the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) 22nd Conference. He delivered a presentation on the ISSB launch and participated in the panel discussion which followed, entitled 'Redefining our Value: the Future ASEAN Accountants'.


November 2021: AOSSG Annual Meeting

The 13th Annual Asian-Oceanian Standard-Setters Group (AOSSG) meeting was held online. Presentations on various topics were delivered by former IASB Chair Hans Hoogervorst, IASB Chair Andreas Barckow, Sue Lloyd (Vice-Chair of IASB until 1 March 2022 and now Vice-Chair of the ISSB) and IASB Members Jianqiao Lu, Bruce Mackenzie and Ann Tarca, along with IFRS technical staff. Standard-setters from Australia, Brunei, China, Dubai, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam participated in the meeting.


October 2021: Japan Association for International Accounting Studies Conference

IASB Member Rika Suzuki was invited as a guest speaker to the association’s 38th annual conference and delivered a speech on the latest developments in IASB projects.


October 2021: China/Japan/Korea Standard-setters meeting

The 21st China, Japan and Korea standard-setters’ Three Countries Meeting was held online. IASB Chair Andreas Barckow and IASB Members Jianqiao Lu, Rika Suzuki and Ann Tarca participated in the meeting. Various topics including Business Combination Under Common Control, crypto-assets and intangibles were discussed.


September 2021: JICPA/KICPA/ISCA IFRS webinar

The International Federation of Accountants, JICPA, the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA) and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) (the so-called Jeju Group) held their fourth IFRS webinar in which they discussed sustainability reporting and assurance. IFRS Foundation Trustees Masamichi Kono and Su-Keun Kwak gave an update on the formation of the ISSB. This webinar was supported by AFA, the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) and the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA).


September 2021: IOSCO Asia-Pacific Regional Committee meeting

The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) held its meeting online, chaired by the Japan Financial Services Agency. IASB Members Mary Tokar and Rika Suzuki and Executive Technical Director Nili Shah attended the meeting and discussed IASB’s Third Agenda Consultation with the committee. The committee consists of securities regulators from 24 jurisdictions in the Asia-Oceania region.


July 2021: Asia-Oceania technical staff interview by JICPA

JICPA conducted an interview with IFRS Foundation Asia-Oceana Technical Staff Saori Tanabe, Kuniyoshi Suzuki and Wei Shun Tan. They talked about their interest in working on IASB’s standard-setting and the experience they have obtained in the AO office.


July 2021: AFA IFRS webinar

AFA held their webinar on the IASB’s Third Agenda Consultation. IASB Member Rika Suzuki and technical staff participated. The Board heard from a panel of 16 representatives from nine ASEAN jurisdictions on their initial thoughts on the consultation. 200 participants from 16 countries participated online.


April 2021: Jeju Group IFRS webinar

IFAC, JICPA, KICPA and ISCA held their third IFRS webinar on the topic of Business Combinations under Common Control. IASB Members Rika Suzuki and Ann Tarca, along with technical staff, discussed the IASB’s Discussion Paper Business Combinations under Common Control, which was published in November 2020.


March 2021: FASF symposium

The International Accounting Personnel Network, hosted by the Japan Financial Accounting Standards Foundation (FASF), held their fourth symposium. IASB Member Rika Suzuki delivered a presentation on the Exposure Draft General Presentation and Disclosures and the Discussion Paper Business Combinations—Disclosures, Goodwill and Impairment.
