The organisation

The IFRS Foundation is a not-for-profit, public interest organisation established to develop a single set of high-quality, understandable, enforceable and globally accepted accounting standards and to promote and facilitate their adoption. These are known as IFRS Standards and are set by the Foundation’s standard-setting body, the International Accounting Standards Board (Board).

The Board is an independent global standard-setting body, whose 14 members are diverse professionally and geographically to ensure global market coverage. The Trustees oversee in the public interest the work of the Board and the organisation’s other bodies and functions, and are in turn overseen by a Monitoring Board made up of public regulators.

Full details of the Board—as well as the Foundation’s structure, activities and key personnel—can be found here.

In line with the Foundation’s Constitution, we are seeking candidates with substantial senior experience to fill four vacancies:

  • Two from the Americas, commencing 1 April and 1 July 2022 respectively; and
  • Two from Europe. The European vacancies arise from 30 June 2021. The Foundation would like these appointments to commence as soon as possible thereafter.

Role responsibilities

  • Work with the Board: Engage with fellow members as part of a collegial standard-setting Board, contributing to Board debate on the development and review of IFRS Standards.
  • Work with technical staff: Liaise closely with members of the independent team of technical staff, providing advice, guidance and thought leadership, suggesting creative solutions to resolve issues and help projects progress on a range of complex financial reporting issues.
  • Work with external stakeholders: Enhance confidence and trust in the standard-setting process by proactively liaising with a wide variety of external stakeholders, communicating Board proposals and responding to their feedback, and building relationships to promote IFRS Standards as the globally accepted standard for financial reporting.

Role requirement

These are senior and prestigious appointments which require:

  • Demonstrable and in-depth understanding of the global economic environment and a combination of technical expertise and diversity of international business and market experience gained from backgrounds such as auditor, preparer, user of financial statements, market and/or financial regulator or in academia.
  • Excellent strategic and analytical thinking skills combined with a pragmatic mindset and strong project management skills.
  • The ability to work as a team player with personal impact working collegially with a range of individuals from across the globe.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to represent the Board effectively and to listen, debate with and consider the views of others.
  • A commitment to serving the public interest.

Appointments are for a term of five years. Consideration will be given to a second term. Second terms are usually for a further three years and a maximum of five.
