The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation, responsible for the oversight and governance of the International Accounting Standards Board (Board), have confirmed the appointment of 12 new individuals and the reappointments of five individuals to the IFRS Advisory Council.

The Council advises the IFRS Foundation Trustees and the Board on both strategic and technical matters. It consists of over 40 representatives from various groups that are affected by and interested in international financial reporting, including academics, analysts, auditors, investors, preparers, professional accounting bodies, regulators and standard-setters.

Having served two terms (the maximum), the following members are stepping down from the Council at the end of the year:

In addition, Goro Kumagai (the Securities Analysts Association of Japan) has stepped down from the Advisory Council to become a member of the IFRS Interpretations Committee. Colin McDonald (the Investment Association) and John Stanford (International Federation of Accountants) both stepped down at the end of their first terms.

All appointments take effect 1 January 2019 and are for a three-year period.

The European Commission, Japan’s Financial Services Agency and the US Securities and Exchange Commission attend the Council meetings as observers.
