About the role

Reports to: Chief of Legal, Compliance and Commercial Operations
Direct reports: Two Adoption Support Managers
Job Purpose: Leads activities in the area of translation and licensing to support and facilitate jurisdictional adoption of IFRS Accounting Standards and IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards around the world.

The team

  • This position leads the translation, adoption and copyright (TAC) team, currently consisting out of two Adoption Support Managers.
  • This role reports into the Chief of Legal, Compliance & Commercial Operations and works closely with several other teams within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and oversee operational adoption support activities:

  • Act as a credible and authoritative representative of the Foundation to external stakeholders, providing support throughout the adoption process - maintaining communication and cooperation, answering queries and liaising with technical staff.
  • Oversee licensing activities with jurisdictional authorities for the use of the Foundation’s intellectual property, including agreeing terms, managing negotiations, instructing legal team, overseeing contractual obligations and content distribution.
  • Oversee some commercial licensing activities.
  • Act as a designated relationship manager for a portfolio of jurisdictions. 
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of jurisdictional profiles for the Standards.
  • Work with the Technical, Regulatory Affairs, Market Engagement, Editorial, Production, Publication, Web and Legal teams to ensure a common understanding of the related processes, the status of adoption and translation activities and to identify and maintain synergies between the teams.
  • Contribute to organisational effectiveness through the identification and implementation of process improvements.

Manage and oversee the translation process (in conjunction with Adoption Support Managers) to deliver high-quality translations to time and to budget:

  • Oversee the production and publication of translations of the Standards, including in-house translations and those produced by third parties under license on behalf of the Foundation.
  • Manage schedules and resources to ensure that translations are of high quality and will facilitate adoption of the Standards.
  • Oversee and manage the review process with volunteer review committees.
  • Maintain and develop best practice procedures and systems to ensure maximum efficiency within translation production and accuracy of published content.

Contribute to policy-level and strategic adoption support activities:

  • Develop and implement translation and jurisdictional licensing policies.
  • Work with the External Affairs and Regulatory Affairs teams on regulatory adoption issues and policy-level outreach activities with jurisdictions and regulatory entities.
  • Work with senior staff (including Trustees and Board Members) to contribute to the development and implementation strategies and plans to support adoption of the Standards.
  • Prepare a range of trackers and documents for internal and external use, including policy papers and reports.

Team management:

  • Provide managerial and pastoral support to the team by:
    • Supervising the work of, and providing support to, team members.
    • Providing guidance and acting as a point of escalation for queries and issues relating to adoption, licensing and translation.
    • Conducting performance reviews.
  • Manage team resources and staffing.

Skills and attributes

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills and in particular the ability to write clear and accurate reports in English.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, demonstrating tact, diplomacy and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to form and manage effective relationships with a wide range of international stakeholders at all levels.
  • Results-oriented with good organisational skills.
  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively, often as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Able to manage workloads to meet timescales, budgets and deliverables.
  • Sound commercial judgment.
  • High level of attention to detail, whilst also being able to maintain a holistic view.

  • Ability to work and make decisions autonomously, whilst recognising the importance of process and compliance.

Qualifications and experience

  • Previous experience in international project management/stakeholder management and working with high profile stakeholders from around the world.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with copyright licensing contracts.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in translation management would be desirable.
  • Fluency in one or more languages would be highly desirable (French, Arabic, Japanese are of particular relevance).
  • Working knowledge of computer-assisted translation tools such as Trados, DeepL a.o.
  • Medium proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Degree in an international discipline would be highly desirable.
