Maria Theofilaktidis

Biography

Maria Theofilaktidis is Executive Vice President and Chief Auditor at Scotiabank, with responsibility for providing strategic direction, leadership and oversight of the Audit Function globally, to provide enterprise-wide independent, to objective assurance over the design and operating effectiveness of Scotiabank’s internal controls, risk management and governance processes.

Since joining Scotiabank in 2002, Maria has held various senior positions across Canadian Banking, Global Finance, Global Risk Management, Global Compliance and Audit, and was most recently Executive Vice President, Finance, with responsibility for Accounting and Financial Reporting, Capital Management, Global Taxation, and Global Procurement functions within Global Finance.

Maria is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, and she is also the Executive Champion for the women’s groups at both Scotiabank and the Middle Eastern Employee Network.

She is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant. She completed her Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Accounting at the University of The Witwatersrand, South Africa, and gained significant financial experience with KPMG’s National Office and Financial Services and Insurance Practices in Canada and South Africa.

Outside of her role at Scotiabank and her role as an IFRS Foundation Trustee, she volunteers her time as a board member of the Women’s College Hospital Foundation.
