With almost three decades in financial services, the majority in finance, accounting and auditing, Maria Theofilaktidis joined the IFRS Foundation Trustees on 1 January 2020. She is currently Executive Vice-President, Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Enterprise Risk at the Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank) in Canada.
Over the course of her career, she worked in various roles at KPMG between 1992 and 2002, moving with the company from South Africa to Canada. She moved to the Bank of Nova Scotia in 2002, where she has held progressively senior roles across various divisions in the Bank such as Professional Practice Audit, Financial Reporting and Accounting, Capital Management, Chief Accountant, Global Retail Risk Management and Head of Retail Distribution.
With broad leadership roles in the financial services, she has also been a member of the IFRS Global Preparers Forum. She is a chartered professional accountant with an honours degree in accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
