Kurt Schacht is an experienced and highly regarded advocate of investor protection and provides a strong investor voice in the debates internationally regarding accounting policy and financial regulation.
For more than a decade, Mr Schacht has led the CFA Institute’s advocacy and regulatory affairs activities across Asia, Europe and the Americas. He was the former Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s Investor Advisory Committee and is on the advisory board of the Millstein Center for Global Markets at Columbia Law School. He previously served as a member of the standing advisory group for the US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). He has also worked with the International Corporate Governance Network, the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment Expert Group and the Professionalism and Standards Task Force of Regulated Professions and Industries (PSTF), which was established in 2011 at the request of the G20 Presidency.
Mr Schacht holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a qualified Attorney, receiving his Law degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1983. Before joining the CFA Institute, Mr Schacht held various senior positions in investment companies and in public service.
