Mr Goro Kumagai currently conducts research on the developments of global capital markets, to report to Mizuho Securities’ management. His current research interests include the reform of global financial and capital market regulations such as Basel III, as well as the development of global accounting standards. He teaches the course on the reform of global financial and capital markets as a Visiting Professor at Kyoto University Graduate School of Management.

Before joining the Strategic Research Department in April 2007 Mr Kumagai was the senior equity strategist of Mizuho Securities. He was among the top banking analysts in the midst of the Japanese banking crisis from the early 1990s through to the early 2000s. He also has portfolio management experience at Nomura Asset Management, one of the largest investment management houses in Japan, where he assumed the responsibility for stock selection and later sector allocation for Japanese equity portfolios. In addition to Mizuho Securities and Nomura Asset Management, he has worked for Nomura Securities, Nomura Research Institute, Nikko Salomon Smith Barney and Sparx Asset Management. He is also active in the area of financial accounting as a professional user of financial statements, serving as a member of many financial reporting related committees.

Mr Kumagai holds an MBA from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University and a BA in Economics from Keio University.
