 Translation Project Manager


Salary: £35,000 circa per annum (plus benefits)
Location: London

Who we are and what we do

The IFRS Foundation is the oversight body of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). We are a not-for-profit organisation whose aim, through the IASB, is to develop, in the public interest, a single set of high quality, global accounting standards.

What we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced translation project manager to join the team.  You will be managing translation projects as well as supporting our licensed translation partners and entities adopting IFRSs.  You will need a working knowledge of translation memory software, such as Trados, in order to support translators and maintain translation memories. 

Working as an integral part of the Translation, Adoption and Copyright team, you will be expected to:

  • Support entities that are adopting IFRSs as law 
  • Manage and deliver high-quality translations in accordance with IFRS Foundation policy and procedures,
  • Support partners that are licensed to produce translations in accordance with IFRS Foundation policy and procedures.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with entities adopting IFRSs - providing information on IFRS adoption policies, support on translation procedures and translation software, ensuring appropriate contracts are in place, following up on deliverables and other contractual obligations.
  • Contracts – Ability to negotiate with external parties, explain adoption and translation policies in clear precise terms, following up as necessary to reach agreement. Work with legal team to put contracts in place.
  • Resources – communicating with translators and other process participants to ensure sufficient capacity for planned translations.
  • Report - Producing regular and timely status reports for internal and external use.
  • Manage the review process – working with volunteer review committees, sending and receiving files, liaison between translators and review committees, ensuring final files are received back in time.
  • Delivery – following up on deliverables, maintaining version control through IFRS Foundation processes.

The role may also include management and delivery of high-quality translations in accordance with IFRS Foundation policy and procedures, which in addition to the above, would involve:

  • Preparation - Preparing of source files; allocation of translation and review.
  • Cost control - each project should be planned and tracked in accordance with the budget.
  • Resources – communicating with translators and other process participants to ensure sufficient capacity for planned translations.
  • Manage the translation process – negotiate quotes and deadlines with translators, despatching of files, queries and technical translation software

Skills and attributes

  • Excellent written and oral English skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Well-developed organisational skills
  • A working knowledge of Computer Assisted Translation tools such as Trados
  • Team working skills
  • Qualification in a relevant discipline.

Qualifications and experience


Essential:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in translation project management combined with a thorough understanding of the translation process.

Desirable:

  • Fluency in additional languages  would be highly desirable (Arabic, Chinese are of particular relevance)
