IASB participated in a joint meeting of accounting standard setters from China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, together with observers from Hong Kong, SAR and Macao SAR, which was held on 6 and 7 September in Xi’ an, PR China.
This was the fifth in a series of meetings and provided an up to date picture of accounting standard setting in the three countries as well as providing a forum to discuss opportunities, and practical obstacles involved in convergence with international standards. The IASB provided an update of its activities, including a progress report of international convergence, and had a useful exchange of views with the standard-setters in attendance. The standard-setters of the three countries agreed that international convergence should be their objective, and the IASB welcomes their initiative.
Tom Jones, Vice-Chairman of IASB and a participant at the meeting, said:
“ This was a very constructive debate and IASB fully supports the commitment of these important countries to the objective of converged international standards ”.
