Financial reporting in high inflationary economies
IAS 29 Financial Reporting in Hyperinflationary Economies sets out the requirements for financial statements when an entity’s functional currency is suffering from hyperinflation. Concerns have been raised from some countries whose economies suffer from high inflation, but that are not hyperinflationary, that the effects of high inflation on an entity’s financial results are not adequately reflected in IFRS financial statements. Some preliminary research has been undertaken by the Argentinian standard setter, the Federación Argentina de Consejos Profesionales de Ciencias Económicas. The research project will examine this preliminary work and assess whether the IASB should consider revising IAS 29.
