It is with great sadness that we learned over the weekend of the passing away of Tony Cope. Tony served as a member of the IASB from 2001 until 2007, and beforehand was a member of the US Financial Accounting Standards Board between 1993 and 2001. Tony played a leading role in the Strategy Working Party that led to the creation of the IASB in 2001. Before serving as an accounting standard-setter, Tony spent most of his career in the United States as a senior executive in the investment industry, although he was born and educated in the United Kingdom.
Ian Mackintosh, Vice-Chairman of the IASB noted, “Tony was one of the founding members of the IASB and made a huge contribution to the quality of financial reporting worldwide. More than that, he was a lovely guy and he will be missed deeply by his many friends and colleagues in the standard-setting community. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
