IASB Chairman Hans Hoogervorst today took part in a panel discussion at the 6th Symposium on Accounting Research, organised by Autorité des normes comptables (ANC) in Paris, France. Other participants included Pervenche Berès (European deputy), Patrick de Cambourg (ANC Chairman), Jean-Paul Gauzes (EFRAG Chairman), Erik Nooteboom (European Commission) and Benoît de Juvigny (AMF secretary General).
During his opening remarks Hoogervorst cautioned against seductive arguments for greater stability in reported financial performance. “Long-term investment should not be encouraged by artificial accounting stability in the numbers," he said. "Long-term investment is best served by transparency that the public can trust.”
